“I come from a working class family who had little money, so despite a basic education I was determined to make a good living – it's fair to say that money has always driven me. At 16 I got my first job in the City and went to college day release to gain further qualifications. I learnt on my feet and really enjoyed what I was doing, so it came as a shock when, a few years down the line, I was made redundant.

A job at a major bank followed, but I wasn't happy there. I really wanted to get into the money market, which I did in my early 20s. I was in the right place at the right time and never looked back.
